Curriculum

The most important goals of our Early Childhood Curriculum are to help the children develop a sense of belonging and wellbeing, be proud of who they are, and to become engaged, capable, and independent learners.

"Together may we give our children the roots to grow and the wings to fly.” ~ Author Unknown

Experiences vary throughout the day and are a combination of those that are child-initiated, spontaneous, intentional, and part of a transition or routine. These experiences, along with meaningful interactions and scaffolding from our teaching staff when deemed authentic and appropriate, encourage and support children to challenge themselves, take assessed risks, to trust in themselves, build resilience, conquer developmental milestones and beyond, develop self-awareness, confidence, and independence.

Our daily routine allows large amounts of uninterrupted play time, both inside and outside (this can be flexible depending on the weather and children’s interests). We come together as a group throughout the day to share stories, participate in music and movement or games, have discussions, share ideas and reflect, and to learn what it takes to be a part of a community. Our natural environment and local community also inspires us to explore and investigate, take on physical challenges, spread our wings, build early mathematical and literacy skills, or get creative.

“Children still need a childhood with dirt, mud, puddles, trees, sticks, and tadpoles.” ~ Brooke Hampton

Our Curriculum identifies aims outlined in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), the Queensland Kindergarten Learning

Guidelines (QKLG) and works alongside the C&K Curriculum Approach—Listening and Learning Together. Each of these curriculum frameworks contain 5 Learning Outcomes which align and interconnect with each other. Learning and developmental areas we focus on within our curriculum include Identity, Connectedness, Wellbeing, Active Learning, and Communicating.

The National Quality Framework (NQF) guides all early childhood services to provide both high quality and consistent standards of education and care across Australia. The National Quality Standards, of which there are 7, ensure services are providing the best possible outcomes for children and families.

"We couldn’t be happier with C&K Kawana Community Kindergarten. Coming from a busy daycare setting where she often felt a bit lost, our daughter has settled in to the kindy’s warm, homely atmosphere so easily. We love the massive, shady playground and the creative ways her teachers present learning opportunities. The staff are exceptional and go above and beyond to help the kids feel part of a very special kindy community."

Learning Environment

Our beautiful and homely environment allows countless opportunities for your child to explore, investigate, wonder, learn, play and connect.

Our outside environment is full of natural areas and resources that foster inquisitive minds; build resilience and wellbeing; and instil love, care and respect for the land we play on and learn from. Our inside spaces allow children to self-select experiences and areas of interest to them growing their sense of agency and independence.
